How Discord renders a link
Discord builds a rich embed with a coloured accent bar down the left edge, a small site name above the title, the title as a link, the description, and the image below the text rather than above it. It is one of the very few platforms that shows your description close to in full, around 350 characters, so a description written for X will look oddly clipped here while one written for Discord gets read. It also honours the page's theme-color for that accent bar and reads og:site_name for the label above the title, two tags almost nobody sets.
When a link does not embed
Discord caches embeds and refreshes on its own schedule, with no debugger to force it. Re-pasting the URL in a channel usually triggers a fresh fetch. If a link never embeds at all, the usual causes are a page that blocks Discord's crawler, a link posted inside angle brackets, which is the documented way to suppress an embed on purpose, or a server or channel where embed permissions are switched off. Check the tags here first: if they read correctly, the problem is on the Discord side rather than the page.

- Why is my link not embedding in Discord?
- Either Discord's crawler cannot reach the page, the link is wrapped in angle brackets, which suppresses the embed deliberately, or the channel has embed permissions disabled. Run the URL through the checker above: if the tags come back clean, the page is not the problem.
- How long is a Discord embed description?
- Around 350 characters, far more than X or Facebook show and infinitely more than LinkedIn, which shows none. If your audience is mostly in Discord servers, write the description to be read rather than trimmed to fit a timeline card.
- What is the coloured bar on the left of an embed?
- Discord takes it from the page's theme-color meta tag. Set it to a brand colour and every link you share in a server picks up that stripe, which is a small, free consistency win that most sites never bother with.
- Can I control the embed for a link I am just sharing?
