Paste any URL to see the card LinkedIn will actually render, which Open Graph tags it found, and what is missing. LinkedIn is the strictest of the major platforms about tags, and the least forgiving once it has cached a bad one.
How LinkedIn renders a link
LinkedIn shows a compact inline card: a small square thumbnail on the left, the title on the right, and no description at all. That last part catches people out. You can write a perfect og:description and LinkedIn will not display a word of it, so the title has to carry the entire message on its own — keep it under about 70 characters before it truncates. The thumbnail is a hard crop from the centre of your og:image, which means a 1200×627 banner with text along the edges loses that text completely.
Why your LinkedIn preview will not update
LinkedIn caches scraped metadata for roughly seven days, keyed on og:url. Two things follow. If og:url does not match the page it sits on, LinkedIn frequently refuses to render a preview at all, which is the single most common cause of a link posting as bare text. And if you fix your tags after LinkedIn has already scraped the page, nothing changes until the cache expires or you force a re-scrape with LinkedIn's own Post Inspector. Editing the page is not enough on its own.

Frequently asked questions
- Why does my LinkedIn preview show the wrong image?
- Usually LinkedIn cached an older version of the page, or there is no og:image and it picked something off the page itself. Check the tags below first: if og:image is present and reachable but LinkedIn is showing something else, it is a cache issue and the Post Inspector will clear it. If og:image is missing or the image is unreachable, fix that before doing anything else.
- Why is my link posting with no preview at all?
- The most common cause is an og:url that does not match the page's real canonical URL. LinkedIn treats that mismatch as a reason to distrust the page and renders nothing. Redirects and pages behind a login or a bot filter produce the same result, because LinkedIn's crawler never gets the HTML in the first place.
- What image size should I use for LinkedIn?
- 1200×627 at 1.91:1 is the safe upload size, but bear in mind the inline card crops it to a square thumbnail. Put whatever matters in the middle. Anything below 600×315 risks being rendered as a small thumbnail on every platform, not just this one.
- Can I fix a LinkedIn preview for a page I do not own?
- Not by editing its tags — you have no access to them. Share a Prelinq link instead. It carries the title, description, and image you choose, and forwards whoever clicks to the original page. Because the tags live on a page Prelinq hosts, you can also change them after you have posted.
